The Global 5000 program was introduced in 2001, as an initiation to replace the Global Express platform. The Bombardier Global 5000 shares the same wing and fuselage cross-section but has a shorter cabin and reduced weight. While this reduces the total range more than 1000 nautical miles compared to the Bombardier Global Express (XRS), the Global 5000 is able to carry more than 1,500lbs more in payload than the Global Express, while boasting a shorter takeoff/landing performance.
