Gulfstream G450 Development & Background
The Gulfstream G450 was introduced in 2004 as a successor to the workhorse Gulfstream GIV and GIV-SP. The engineers seeked to improve the performance, systems, and comfort while keeping the reliability the GIV was known for in the 1990s.
While being manufactured in Savannah, Georgia, engineers took the fuselage of the G550 and shortened it by 7ft 2in, and integrated the Honeywell PlaneView flight deck, offering pilots improved situational awareness, synthetic vision, and streamlined automation.
The G450 was given two Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8C engines that produced 13,850 pounds of thrust, providing an ideal balance of thrust-to-weight ratio, fuel efficiency, and dependability. The combination of the fuselage, wing, and engine gave the G450 a range of 4,350 nautical miles, enough to connect New York to London or Los Angeles to Honolulu nonstop.
The Gulfstream G450 was certified in 2004 by FAA and EASA after rigorous testing, and continued until 2018 when the G500 took its place in Gulfstream’s lineup.
