Hawker 700 Development & Background
The origins of the Hawker 700 began with the de Havilland DH.125 Jet Dragon, which was introduced in 1962 as one of the first purpose-built business jets. In 1963, Hawker Siddeley Aviation acquired de Havilland and rebranded the DH.125 as the Hawker HS.125, while receiving multiple variants throughout the years.
Hawker saw the success of the initial HS.125 variants, and created the Hawker 700, a major redesign introduced by British Aerospace in 1977 to address performance and range limitations of the earlier series.
Hawker gave the 700 series two Garret TFE731-3R turbofan engines, replacing the previous engines for more range, superior fuel efficiency, and quieter operations. The Hawker 700 was given a new wing design with improved lift-to-drag efficiency, increased fuel capacity, enhanced environmental and pressurization systems, and operator choosing, an optional Rockwell Collins Pro Line avionics suite.
Since inception, over 200 have been built until production seized in 1983, making it a stepping stone for the future variants such as the Hawker 800 or Hawker 850XP.
